Account Types
CGA offers three different types of accounts.
- Regular account: This is the usual CGA account that is set up after an award is made. Generally, CGA setups up restricted accounts in the 61-xxxx range with federal funding in 61-0000 – 61-4999, federal pass-thru funding in 61-5000-5999, and other restricted sources (State of MI, Foundations, Associations, and other) in the range 61-6000 -9999. CGA sets up awards that do not have specific restrictions on how the money can be spent, or has restrictions on mixing the money from other sources in accounts in the range 71-0100 – 71-4999.
- Advanced account: Advanced accounts are used when a PI has requested expedited account setup AND CGA has enough paperwork to agree that an award is imminent, AND the college has agreed to allow advanced accounts. Click here for more information about advanced accounts.
- Hardship account: Hardship accounts are available as soon as the department guarantees that if the award is not made, for any reason, the department will transfer the expenses to another non-restricted account. Hardship accounts can be setup with certain dollar limits. Click here for more information on hardship accounts.
All of the above account types assume that:
- A transmittal has been processed. Click here for more details.
- If human subjects are involved the appropriate approval has been secured. Click here for more details.
- If animals are involved the appropriate approval has been secured. Click here for more details.
- If the potential funding agency requires cost sharing, the details of how the cost sharing will be met are provided to CGA so the appropriate information can be captured from the beginning of the project.
