The eTransmittal is working!  To date, ten eTransmittals have been successfully routed!!  This is a great way to save time, ensure proper routing and credit allocations.  All of your suggestions are being/have been implemented so the system is getting better and better.  Please give it a try!

The eTransmittal was presented to about ~75 departmetnal administrators at the Henry Center.  Additional college training is available upon request.  The web process is functional!

Goals:

• Ease the processing of grants through MSUs internal processes - eliminate or reduce the walking to obtain signatures!
• Provide a short-term solution for the long-term need for a comprehensive Electronic Research Administration (ERA) system.   The first release of the Kuali Research Administration (KRA/Coeus) system is scheduled for July 2008.  Stay tuned for an implementation date.
• Improve the communications by documenting existing transmittal practice on the web
• Improve the process by using technology to ensure consistent treatment of proposal signoff and credit allocation

Status:

·        The system is functional but not fully tested.

·        Testers/early adopters wanted!

Whats different in the eTransmittal?

·        All PIs have to approve/e-sign the eTransmittal

·        Credit allocation is handled through pre-established profile(s) - approved by the college

·        Enforces appropriate routing based on pre-established profiles

·        The PI certification language has been strengthened to comply with federal regulations

·        The NSF/NIH Financial Conflict of Interest language is being updated

The eTransmittal is functional!  That means it can be used but hasn't been fully tested.  We would love to have more testers who can provide us with usability feedback and bug reports.  It will save you a trip around campus to get signatures!  Come on - try it at:  www.cga.msu.edu/pl/portal/default.aspx

MSU eTransmittal!  Yes, its true, CGA is developing an updated transmittal system so you can electronically rout your proposals for approvals. 

Goals:

• Ease the processing of grants through MSUs internal processes - eliminate or reduce the walking to obtain signatures!
• Provide a short-term solution for the long-term need for a comprehensive Electronic Research Administration (ERA) system
• Improve the communications by documenting existing transmittal practice on the web
• Improve the process by using technology to ensure consistent treatment of proposal signoff and credit allocation
• Ease the process by using approved PI and departmental profiles
• Where appropriate, replace current steps with reports
• Prepare MSU for the first release of the Kuali Research Administration (KRA/Coeus) system scheduled for release in July 2008

Status:

• A beta version is available for the CGA web site at: www.cga.msu.edu/pl/portal/default.aspx
• The system is based on PI and departmental profiles
• The system collects all the information currently on the paper transmittal
• The e-system prints the appropriate routes based on how the transmittal is completed (international, space, MSU foundation, departments, colleges, etc.)
• The system requires all PI's to approve the proposal prior to routing.  The current system one requires one PI

What is still needed?

• Testers need to provide feedback to CGA!
• The revised PI certification languages needs to be finalized
• CGA needs to complete the approval screens
• Departments/colleges need to complete the PI and departmental profiles
• Colleges need to volunteer to be early adopters
• Another campus demo of the system after feedback from testers and early adopters (College of Engineering)
